A. yes it is stress causing it, other than medication there is not a lot that you can do about it. Things will get better in time just hang in there.

A. RELAX. What ever you did know you tried your best. You should've tried as hard as you could during the exam and the interview. If all goes well then its your luck. If its not then its not the end of the world. You'll always get anothre chance as long as you try and never give up.

What are the levels of stress and how do we identify our level?
Q. We're doing a research on stress levels experienced by college students. Level of stress is our variable. So far, I haven't found a consistent view on levels of stress yet. It seems like different researchers and authors have identified their own levels of stress for their respective population. Although there are established ways on measuring stress, there are a few resources on levels of stress. Can you identify some and cite your resources? Thanks!

A. The best answer I can give you is that the levels are unimportant because the closer the matter is to your heart the more it frazzles you. Take it from me, a 55 yr old woman, who worked in state tax collection for years (which carries a very high level of stress), Single mother with 3 grown sons with child custody problems ( very high level of stress), has alzheimer's disease now (I guess I blew a gasket), seizures and esophageal erosion, and is now disabled. If i didn't have interaction with other people I wouldn't have any stress at all. Stress as is depression, is brought about via outside influence for me. As a woman my family is the most important thing in my life. If I am being pushed to achieve a goal at work or to exceed an amount… [cont.]

Is our reaction to stress genetically determined, or do we learn how to respond to stress by observing others?
Q. Is our reaction to stress genetically determined, or do we learn how to respond to stress by observing others in our culture by watching television and movies?
Asked by JLove - Thu Oct 2 15:21:50 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Our reaction to stress may be genetically predetermined. Such as one child in the family may respond to TV with manifestations of fear (afraid of the dark etc) other children may seem fine. One child may handle the stress of divorce totally different than another child. However, each can learn how to handle stress better. They may have to learn to avoid certain stimuli such as scary movies, arguing etc. As adults we face the same thing...if we didn't learn as children we have to learn as adults how to manage stress. Can stress reduce the effect of your birth control pill?
Q. I have been under loads of stress lately and I'm taking Errin (a progestoren only pill) and I wonder if my stress can reduce the effectiveness of the pill. Can I get pregnant? Or is the stress harmless? Besides the obvious harmful things stress does to the body. Thanks!

A. Stress has an effect on everything your body does... stress effects your period (making it earlier or later). I'd de-stress if I was you, I think the added stress of a the possibility baby would not help out your current stress level. Call your dr. office and talk with either the LpN or the PA, you can ask them. Every pill effects every person differenly. Get the facts from a profession source.

There are many good books written - but I would find a good one written by an MD who also knows some natural remedies, and I would give her the book to read. Be kind to her, maybe watch some funny movies - laughing is the best medicine. She also could maybe use a doctors appt., or have someone to talk to whose opinion matters to her. Good luck, she is lucky to have someone to care about her like you do! I wouldn't nag her about the smoking, she probably feels bad enough about it as it is, and that would just add to the stress. How severe should the stress be during pregnancy to affect the baby?
Q. Lots of women are stressed out, depressed, emotional or simply just moody during pregnancy. But how severe is the stress to actually affect the baby?
Asked by Yuki: Baby Girl due on 10/2/10 - Thu Sep 11 15:51:11 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When people ask this question I always like to refer to the babies born to mothers who lost their husbands in the tragedy of 9/11 in 2001. Can you imagine how stressed and depressed these pregnant women must have been after losing their husbands in such a horrible tragedy, especially knowing their children would never meet their fathers? Their babies were just fine, they had a special on TV last year at this time with some of the mother's and their children who were effected by the tragedy. As long as you take care of your self physically, your baby should be fine.

How do I change the way that I respond to stress and lower my stress level?
Q. I have developed some not exactly healthy methods to deal with stress, including smoking. I mention it because needing to have a smoke is one of the biggest indicator I'm under too much stress. Work, money, eating right, difficult people, traffic, things breaking down around the house, negative news, etc... I don't necessarily want to be able to handle more stress. I've started a journal where I have noted the things that I find stressful, and have rated them according to how stressful they are and how much control I have over them. I am open to any answers, even pollyanna & (non-fundie) religious ones. I'm looking for advice on what the path towards better stress management really entails. Any good books you could suggest, too. Thank… [cont.]

A. Exercise is a proven method of relieving stress. Regular exercise will make you less stress prone in general, and exercise after a stressful incident may help you relax. Massage is surprisingly effective too - I really recommend this myself - though it can be expensive to book a course professionally. But well worth it! And 'Chill-out' type music. I know these are all very obvious - but they do all work well.

Q. I've quickly turned into quite the loose tea lover, and I have a lot of stress and anxiety, and I was wondering what anyone's recommendations would be for some teas that can be used to relieve stress.

A. Here is a list of herbs that I have found to be the best when it comes to relieving stress and helping to calm nerves: chamomile vervain peppermint linden flowers lavender flowers lemon balm All of these herbs are great tasting and stress relieving on their own, but, you can combine all of them in equal amounts, and use them as a tea. For example, I would blend 1/4 cup of any of the herbs (use a mixture of at least 2 or 3 of the herbs together for a better effect), then use 2 teaspoons of the mixture for your tea. Let the herbs steep for 5 to 10 minutes before you strain and drink it. You can make lots of great tasting teas by changing which herbs you mix together.

What are some ways to handle stress related nausea?
Q. I have had stress-related nausea for several months now. The job that I work at is in sales and it is very high stress. They fire people in front of the rest of the employees and sometimes they have unreal expectations. I find that during these times in particular I feel like I have to throw up, but I'm not able to throw up. I've tried drinking ginger ale and it doesn't seem to help at all. Drinking peppermint tea seems to help, as well as Pepto Bismol. I'd like to know, though, if there's any way to prevent this feeling sick all together without losing my job. Any suggestions?

I couldnt handle it I felt like I was being watched constantly and they were just waiting for me to slip up. Because of that I ended up making mistakes all the time because I was worrying so much. Seriously just leave before it destroys your self confidence because being in that situation definatley has made me now always lack confidence in my ability and I wish id never got that job. Start looking for a new 1 now because its not worth being unhappy for. I dont think you will be able to change the situation at work because they sound like stubborn horrible people. Good luck.

What effect does stress have on a steel arch deck truss bridge?
Q. I wonder if the re-routing of eight lanes of traffic onto four lanes would cause a stress factor of which the four lanes were not designed to with-stand. Thus causing, as in the case of the Minnesota I-35W , a collapse of the structure.

A. It depends on the structure added. If you reroute traffic to double capacity then how are you going to hold all that traffic? If you increase the road bed then you increase the 'dead' load; which is the load that has to be constantly held and thus increase the load on the bridge. If you put in another road deck on top then you are doubling the weight and inviting collapse. If nothing else the foundations wouldn't be able to support the load and so would sink. If you are simply making tighter lanes and pushing more cars across then you have increased the 'live' load. In the case of bridges the live load is usually only a fraction of the 'dead' load so that may not be such a big problem. However, the added stress and shaking caused by… [cont.]

Q. I wonder if the re-routing of eight lanes of traffic onto four lanes would cause a stress factor of which the four lanes were not designed to with-stand. Thus causing, as in the case of the Minnesota I-35W , a collapse of the structure.

What aromas are good for reducing stress?
Q. I have been under a lot of stress lately and when I am it makes my skin break out and is really frustrating. I have tried medication for this condition but it still persists. So I've looked into natural remedies and they included things such as herbal concoctions and aromatherapy. So if anyone knows anything about aromatherapy, would you care to tell me what scents are good for stress relief?

A. As a certified aromatherapist I would suggest Lavender as the #1 essential oil to use. Other choices would be Chamomile and/or Bergamot It really depends on what you personally find attractive to your personal senses. Many of my clients prefer the Lavender. Lavender can be used in an aromatherapy diffuser, or as an alternative, you can dilute Lavender in a bottle with carrier oil at a 2.5% dilution and rub this on your arms and hands. Other alternatives is adding your favorite essential oil to a bottle that contains sea salt. This makes it perfectly portable and you can take it out and take a whiff when you are feeling stressed. I realize that many Internet sites say that you can use Lavender "neat" that means directly on the skin… [cont.]

How to calculate stress in a material, and also calculate how much it stretches?
Q. I've come acorss a problem, this is what i'm faced with. A hollow steel tube has an external diamater of 100mm and a 80mm internal diamater, it is 3m long, and is subjected to a tensile load of 400kN. The stress of the tube needs to be calculated, and also, how much would the tube stretch if Youngs Modulus is 200 000 N/mm . Thanks very much! Any help will be extremely appreciated. Sam Lilley

A. = stress = force/area force = 400kN area = [(100mm)^2 - (80mm)^2] /4 = (400kN) / (900 mm^2) = 444 N/mm^2 = strain = stress/youngs = /E = (444 N/mm^2) / (200,000 N/mm ) = 0.00222 m/m stretch = length stretch = 3m 0.00222 stretch = 0.0067m = 6.7mm
