GNU Free Documentation License How can you determine pressure altitude without setting the altimeter? Q. I already saw an answer about pressure altitude but for some reason, i just still don't get the relationships. How does the actual barometric pressure reading given relate to pressure altitude, is it the same thing? Can you figure out pressure altitude without using the altimeter setting in a plane? I'm missing something and just can't seem to get it straight. Asked by tonythegoodtimeboy - Sun Apr 6 08:53:55 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments A. First, pressure altitude is used as an indicator for atmospheric pressure. As you probably know this and temp are used to calculate aircraft performance. If you want to know the pressure altitude without being in the plane or you just don't want to set it in the Kollsman window, then do the following: 1. Request the local barometric altimeter setting, let's say it's 28.00 "Hg. 2. Take 29.92 "Hg (standard atmosphere) and substract minus the 28.00"Hg. (29.92"Hg-28.00"Hg=1.92"H g) 3. 1.92"Hg is the difference in pressure. 4. Take into account that each inch is worth 1000 ft. 5. Multiply 1.92"Hg X 1,000= 1,920 ft 6. The barometric setting (28.00) was less then 29.92, so we substract (we'd add if it was greater)1,920 from the present altitude… [cont.] Answered by joseph w - Sun Apr 6 11:12:09 2008 What exactly is blood pressure and what are the risks if you have high blood pressure? Im curious? Q. I went to an eye appointment the other day, and they took my blood pressuure. They said that it was a bit higher then normal, and honestly im scared. What is high blood pressure and what does it cause? Also, are there ways to help lower blood pressure? Asked by Sam - Thu Dec 13 19:59:24 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. High blood pressure is when your blood vessels (the tubes that carry blood around your body) are slightly narrower for some reason causing pressure inside them. It could be due to cholesterol (which is like plaque that builds up in your blood vessels). A high calorie diet with inadequate exercise could cause cholesterol build up. Very high blood pressure due to very high cholesterol levels can lead to heart attack and stroke if not dealth with. However, some people's blood pressure has times when it goes high for a little while. Maybe you should get them to check your cholesterol level. Then they will be able to tell you whether or not it is due to something serious or not. Answered by qwrqw q - Thu Dec 13 20:12:49 2007 How does pressure make waves better for surfing?
Q. I hear low pressure systems are good for surfing. What does that mean? How does a lower pressure system better conditions for surfing? Asked by wassupmang - Wed Feb 21 21:05:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments A. Low pressure systems, or storms, cause a vacuum-like effect on the ocean beneath them. They literally lift up the ocean water as they move across the water. So when these waves eventually hit land, they make bigger waves which surfers love. Other than high pressue creating nice warm weather to surf in, the only time I've ever heard of high pressure creating good surfing conditions is here in here on the West Coast, So Cal...my friends that surf say that an off shore wind from the east(which means there is high pressure in our area) is great for surfing because it slows the waves down and makes them less tubular which my buds seem to like.
