Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD, also rendered with a hyphen as post-traumatic stress disorder) is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event which results in psychological trauma. This event may involve the threat of death to oneself or to someone else, or to one's own or someone else's physical, sexual, or psychological integrity, overwhelming the individual's ability to cope. As an effect of psychological trauma, PTSD is less frequent and more enduring than the more commonly seen acute stress response. Diagnostic symptoms for PTSD include re-experiencing the original trauma(s) through flashbacks or nightmares, avoidance of stimuli associated with the trauma, and increased arousal - such as difficulty falling or staying asleep, anger, and hypervigilance. Formal diagnostic criteria (both DSM-IV and ICD-9) require that the symptoms last more than one month and cause significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. From Google News Search: "post traumatic stress" Is it appropriate to use "take a chill pill" as a slogan for a post-traumatic stress disorder project? Q. I have a project on post-traumatic stress disorder and a "saying or slogan" is required. is it appropriate to use the saying "take a chill pill" It is a high school class, if it makes a difference. Asked by Rachel V - Wed Sep 23 22:02:06 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I wouldn't use "take a chill pill" as a slogan for PTSD. That makes it sound like a minor attitude problem. PTSD is serious stuff. To me, it sounds like that slogan is making light of the problem and implying that PTSD can be fixed by taking meds.It also sounds anatoganistic.Think about when you say that to people. Generally, someone would say that to a person who is bouncing of the walls. Meds can help, but they aren't the cure all that people would like them to be. I would start thinking of some other ideas for slogans. Answered by Katherine - Wed Sep 23 22:10:47 2009 can you get a California medical marijuana recommendation for post traumatic stress disorder? Q. Having post traumatic stress disorder has evolved into an eating disorder and an anxiety disorder. Between my addiction and my anxiety, it's leading me down a real long path of self-destruction. I try positive things, like working out etc. But, it just makes me thinner. I don't realize how little I have eaten unless I make a conscious effort to write it down. I take pills for the anxiety and depression, but they make me useless-- productivity at work becomes a joke, and I become a "zombie" so to speak. Now, without realizing (until it was too late) I have pushed away everone in my life that has ever meant anything to me, and it's time for me to change. Problem being, I don't have a hot clue where to start. Any suggestions?
