How hard is Hindi for the English speaker?
Q. If I was motivated to try and learn Hindi through formal classes and a lot of studying, how long would it take me to learn the language? How difficult would it be? Is it worth my time to learn Hindi? Would it benefit me a lot later in life? Thanks in advance.

A. It would take years to learn it proficiently, or to be fluent. I think it could be very beneficial if you ever plan to travel to India or are seeking a job that will expose you to Hindi speakers. Otherwise I would see it as somewhat of a waste of time, unless you just want to study it.

How should one address family members in Hindi or Bengali? What about etiquette?
Q. What's the proper way to address one's family members in either Hindi or Bengali? (Specific words, please?) Is there a less formal form, as in English? ("Mom" instead of "mother", "dad" instead of "father".) Also, does anyone have any general etiquette tips for West Bengal?
