What songs are related to coping with a miscarriage?
Q. I am approaching the 1 year anniversary of my miscarriage and I am having a hard time coping. Are there any good songs that are related to this that aren't all gospely?

A. One I like is George Canyon's "My Name". He wrote it when a friend of his had a miscarriage, and wanted it to help people get through miscarriage. (You can play it from the site). There are a lot of amazing poems around too, let me know if you would like me to email you some. Hugs for your upcoming EDD.

What is a good teen novel where the main theme is coping with death?
Q. I'm trying to write a book proposal for a novel that I've written in which the main theme is a teenager coping with the death of a loved one. I need to include comparisons of like novels with the same theme. Can anyone suggest a book or two with this main theme, preferrably with a copyright date no older than 2000. Thanks!

A. Looking for Alaska by John Green is a pretty good one dealing with death of a friend. Map of the Known World by Lisa Ann Sandell is about the death of a brother. Sarah Dessen's books also deal with loss.

What are some good ways of coping with chronic pain other than medication?
Q. I have a friend who suffers with chronic pain both physical and it seems mental. I was wondering about what to suggest to her in the way of alternative coping methods for pain?
Asked by D K - Tue Nov 28 18:05:26 2006 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I have tried it all. I have chronic hip bursitis for 2 and a half years. I do yoga, pilates and have tried several antiinflammatories, steroid injections, physiotherapy, massage, ultrasound etc. Most things work for a week or two and then it comes back stronger than ever. They finally started me on an antidepressant called Cymbalta. I really insist that I am not depressed. I am very active swim, walk several miles several days a week,, golf. For some reason it seems to be taking the edge off of the pain. I am able to sleep better and I feel more limber. Go figure.

Will it ever rain? How are horse owners coping with the drought?
Q. I am curious to know how horse owners are coping with the drought. In the US Midwest square hay bale prices have risen to $6 to $8 a bale already (in my area). It is expected to reach even higher during the winter months. Most can't even find the hay to buy. For many there was no second hay cutting or the yields were 1/3 of what they normally get. The pastures here look desert hard pan. There is little to no vegitation, even the weeds are dying. Last I heard we our over ten inches below the average rainfall! Many people are getting out of horses entirely. Some are giving them away or giving their tack away if the people will just take the horses off their hands. As a horseowner I was proactive and prepared early, but my friends have not… [cont.]

A. It's pretty dire here too in KY but we know that with the amount of horse farms here, hay will be shipped in from Canada if it comes to it, just depends how much we will have to pay. I bought a ton last week for winter at $5.25 per bale (timothy). We are just hoping for some rain because everything is yellow and burnt, we might get some this weekend. I haven't heard anything as bad as what you are experiencing - yet!

What to do about daughter not coping after moving out?
Q. My 18 year old daughter has recently moved out of home and interstate to work. She is not coping and I am becoming very stressed with worry over her. She hates her job, is not going anywhere when she is not working and is constantly in tears. I miss her very much and it is tearing out my heart every time I hear her in tears on the phone. She is living with her boyfriend, which I thought would be a comfort for her but she's missing me too much, I think, to lean on him.

A. I am sorry for you and your daughter but I am afraid that you just have to step back and let her find her own solution to this problem. You can not stop everything painful or difficult happening to her and she needs to learn how to deal with it her self. I know it is hard but you need to encourage her to stick it out . Suggest that she tries to make some new friends, perhaps her and her boyfriend could join a club.

A. One of the most long-lasting way is realizing that you're working yourself up over something unimportant in the long view. This is almost always true. Plus, your distress over it is only going to hinder you. Let yourself feel sad, angry, or even mildly depressed or anxious. Freeing yourself to experience these emotions will help. In particular, there is an honest kind of anxiety that drives you forward and should be accepted, and an honest kind of depression that signals a need to fall back and regroup, to let things fall as they will within reason. If I may add a third, I'd recommend taking stock of your life and seeing what relationships could be better -- between you and your parents, friend, coworkers, or boss -- and consider… [cont.]

Are some diseases really just ways of coping?
Q. Are some mental disorders like depression, adhd, ocd, eating disorders, anxiety problems and others really just ways of coping with our modern world today? Would we have these if we lived naturally? *Not trying to offend anyone, just curious, because I have gotten diagnosed with a few of these but I feel it's really me trying to cope with the craziness of modern life.

A. Sure, very possible. Probable in many cases. You do have a choice to select a gentler simpler way of life with no TV and no internet and no hassles of making ends meet. There are still quite a few communal places in this country where people just get together and live. They grow food, make clothes, and hang out.

Has some good reviews of downloadable books too in addition to 'real' books :-) My guiding principle in dealing with people is 'Do unto others as you would expect them to do unto you'. Would World Of Warcraft run smoother if i installed it rather than coping and pastng it from and External HD?
Q. I have world of warcraft on another computer and wanted to put it on this computer without having to install it and stuff. A. Unlikely, Lag is caused by server traffic as well as local reasons, your RAM, Video Card and what other programs you have running in the background. What I did is created a WoW profile on my PC and turned off every process that wants to auto run... Start/ Run/ type= msconfig then click the start up tab and un-check everything! Second look at how much RAM you have, and is the video card integrated into your mother board or separate, does it have it's own built in memory or does it utilize system resources to process video All these reasons can cause WoW to lag, My 2nd computer is a HP running Vista and stock with 2GB RAM and integrated video I was getting 1-5 fps in Shatt, I upgraded to 4GB and installed GeForce 8600 GTS and drastically… [cont.]

A. My son was recently diagnosed with bipolar with manic tendencies which when he doesnt take his meds, he has phycotic and schizo episodes and hears things. He thinks he will take over the world, etc. I, too, went on zoloft. Im trying to cope as best i can. The drama and trauma in my house is endless. My husband is constantly fighting with my son to take his meds. He has been in and out of mental institutes. He even escaped for one and was brought back twice. He dropped out of his last year of college, opened a store, and exhausted his life savings. My son is 21 and I really dont know what to do but pray. I said a novena and hope he gets better somehow either with meds or with Gods great help. My heart goes out to u. Hang in… [cont.]

How are you coping in this recession? If we head towards depression what is your backup plan?
Q. If this stimulus package passes and it doesn't work out and we head towards a depression, how are people going to cope? Do you have savings, do you have someone to move in with in case you loose your home, job?

A. I have a stable job in health care, so far untouched! (thank god) but i have a healthy chunk of savings that could last me at least a couple of years on a tight budget. My family would take me in, or I would find a cheap apartment. People needed to start saving years ago, and are now in a very tight spot. xx anna

How are people coping after a total thyroidectomy?
Q. I had a total thyroidectomy 3 weeks ago, and have just been put on anticonvulsants for the nerves in my neck. They are like shooting electric shock pains that knock me to the floor. Any one else had the same issues?
