How can I distress my own jeans?
Q. Ive got a stain on the upper thigh of a pair of favorite jeans. Ive decided I wanted to distress (tear, wear out, etc) them, to cover the spot, and obviously in other spots, to make them look like the jeans that are in style now, rather than go pay $80+ for them in the store. Im looking for an easy, at home, low cost way to do it myself.

A. Saw this on Martha Stewart recently. They used a dremel and sanding sponges (which she says will wear the fabric without tearing). The dremel was used for fraying edges like the hem and tops of pockets. You can probably get a similar effect with the sanding sponges. Sitting down while sanding the thighs for a worn-in look or doing 'whiskers' in the hip area will help make the effect more natural.

How do you distress jeans with a cheese grater ?
Q. i want to rip/distress my jeans at home... i want to know how to do it with a cheese grater .. and if people can tell me other ways how to make them distressed please !
Asked by Pink Paradise - Mon Jul 6 18:17:27 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cheese graters do work but they more often than not completely shred, which may be the look you're going for. I use a power sander set on a low setting to run over the jeans to distress them, by thinning out the denim, creating fraying, fading the color, and creating holes. Cheese graters take longer and you have less control.

How can I distress my stretch jeans myself?
Q. I have some old jeans that I don't wear very often, but instead of getting rid of them and buying new ones, I decided to try and see what I could do with them first. I cut them off to make crop pants but how do I get the hem to fray? How can I put a hole in them that won't get too big? What else can I do to distress them a little? They are 2% spandex, I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

How do I explain death to a 4 year old without creating fear or distress?
Q. I want to be truthful, rather than" magic fairies came and took your grandma away on holiday" as was suggested by somebody I know. I want to say it in a way as not to cause undue fear of loss or distress, advice please?

A. be honest. the boy might be a little upset but it is normal, and it could be easily dealt with if he's in a safe and loving environment. although reality must be faced, loss is never pleasant for anyone, so understand that for the sake of your little boy :) you could say something like "people can't live in the world forever, we all have to say goodbye to the world someday. Grandma was very old and it was her turn to say goodbye. i know you're going to miss her, Grandma loved you very much...but you still have your family and we all love you too."

What does it mean when you are 3 months pregnant and your baby is in Distress?
Q. I have looked up Fetal Distress and is confused about the truth about it. One of my good friends just informed me that her baby is in Distress according to her doctor. She is currently in her 3rd month of her pregnancy. While researching it on the internet, it says that once a baby is in distress they must began labor but that was for someone who is about 38 to 42 weeks. Do anyone knows what may happen for someone 12 to 18 weeks pregnant?
Asked by tamara9sha - Wed Dec 31 11:55:22 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. She needs to ask more questions. I don't know how they can tell if a baby is in distress at 12 weeks. You can't really do extensive fetal monitoring as you would in later pregnancy. There is nothing they can do for a 12 week fetus if it's in distress. It will either continue to be distressed and possibly end up in miscarraige, or it will snap out of the distress. But I have never in my professional experience heard of any doctor being able to diagnose fetal distress in a 12 week fetus. Is it possible your friend is lying to you to get attention?

In your opinion, did displaying signs with the women s names amount to infliction of emotional distress?
Q. Under federal law it was legal for clients to obtain an abortion. Late at night an anti-abortion protester climbed into a dumpster located behind a women s clinic. The protester found documents that showed the names of two women who were scheduled to have abortions at the clinic the following day. The protester gave the information to a friend who planned to picket the next day. She created signs using the names of the two women who were planning to undergo abortions. The signs urged the women not to kill their babies. The women later sued the woman who made and displayed the signs for intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Asked by eastside5 - Thu Sep 18 15:32:28 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes. It was a violation of medical privacy. Additionally, I think the picketers probably intended emotional distress by personally attacking the women using their names. That's pretty blatant harassment. I can't see any other reason for them to behave like that except to purposefully upset the women and purposefully cause emotional distress.

A. This might be filed as a frivolous lawsuit. Women have to have autonomy over their bodies. If they cannot reserve the right to reject the fetus regardless of reasoning then women would return to being treated as little better than cows. I think it would be difficult to convince a jury to give a man money because a woman chose not to carry his child for whatever her reasons were. It would open a can of worms to other situations if you use your imagination. There might be a situation where a woman who agreed to carry a child a for man, with legal contracts stipulating such, that might, MIGHT, have weight. But a woman in that position may still be able to counter with mitigating circumstances such as health. I can see THAT as being… [cont.]

A. wo-big question indeed. ok here goes my attempt at answering. The psyche understands self by projecting it onto beings, varied manifestations of existence with which it has contact with. To understand beings it must contextualize them onto a grander scale and so projects these onto BEING, the actual landscape of existence in view of the psyche. However, without a driven meaning or distracting drive in life many people seek a desire to understand BEING. This is then contextualized onto the only other thing available to the psyche-Time. Time, owing to its concretized abstract nature makes it seem infinite yet unchanging in a world where ALL is change. So, time stabilizes the meaning we give our lives. It also hampers the self defences we… [cont.]

A. WAIT! She might not feel like she can be completely comfortable around you/worries/panics because of this previous abusive relationship. Wait a few weeks, then ask how she feels. If at that point she still wants a break, then you may have to think about how much you love/like her to decide if you will carry on waiting or need to end it. Hope this helped xx

How can I scuff up or distress some new sneakers?
Q. I am buying some new Converse sneakers and I simply abhor the new shoe look. I want to know if anyone has any ideas on how to scuff them up or distress them...quickly. Obviously wearing them for a year would be ideal, however I have more like a week...so...any ideas?

A. This is my way to ruin a pair of sneakers: (I hate new sneakers too they make me feel so dorky) - Wait for a rainy day/ if you're desperate hose down a dirt patch - Jump like crazy in the mud with the shoes on- for at least 10-15min--> - the dirt is only going to stick on your new shoes if it's wet :) i know from experience - Keep doing it until the shoes are completely soaked through - Leave them to dry for a few days so then the dirt cakes in - Wash off any excess grit/grime :), some dirt will always stay on to give the worn-out look! Have fun :) xx nessa
